UNDERSTAND
The Bottlenose Dolphin is an iconic species – the one we all picture when we think of dolphins, thanks to Flipper!
It is very common along the Mediterranean coasts. It is considered an “umbrella species,” meaning that many other species depend on its survival. The Bottlenose Dolphin is an essential link in the marine ecosystem!
Its main threats:
- Intensive fishing
- Increased human presence along the coastline
- Growth of nautical activities, both professional and recreational
ACT
MIRACETI, a public-interest environmental protection association, is based just a few kilometers from Martigues on the Mediterranean coast. Its main mission is to improve knowledge of and contribute to the preservation of cetaceans and the marine ecosystem.
